Remember back in February when I asked Is KPRC 2's Stephen Dean leaving Houston?
The quote he gave me back then answered that question without actually saying it in my opinion:
"My bosses mentioned hearing that rumor [Thursday] as well, and it surprised us all quite a bit," Dean told mikemcguff.com in February. "I signed a new contract just a few months ago, and I'm quite happy with it. My management has asked that I leave my response about my future with the station at that."
I always thought the part that says, "My management has asked that I leave my response about my future with the station at that" kind of said indirectly I'm out of here but my bosses don't want me yacking about it.
Well today Dean informed me he is headed to WSYX ABC6 On Your Side in Columbus, Ohio.
"I am thrilled to be going home to be doing the exact kind of investigative reporting that I love doing so much in Houston," Dean told mikemcguff.com. "It is the perfect chance to go home."
Columbus is also home for Dean's wife where they both have family.
Dean told me that he had some great times in Houston. Some of his favorite investigations were his local law enforcement drone story and a series of reports that forever changed how the U. S. military investigates crimes - a story that earned him the Peabody Award.
According to his LinkedIn account, Dean also worked as an investigative reporter at KTRH 740 NewsRadio, reporter at WCMH-TV and assistant news director/reporter at 610 WTVN Radio. So now Dean will be back where he started at WTVN - Columbus, Ohio.
"We always knew we wanted to go back home, just didn't know when we would have the chance," Dean told me.

Have fun at the Sinclair station... cheap bastards.
ReplyDeleteFrom DMA 10 to DMA 32, this is not exactly movin' on up. Didn't Greenblatt go from DMA 10 to DMA 1?
ReplyDeleteBest wishes. Hard to believe we lose a solid talent like him, and still have hacks like Conflenti, Reyna, Freeman, Bauer, Sachse, Clanton, Jacquez etc here.
ReplyDeleteWhy are they hacks?
DeleteArrogance, can't read, blink too much, narcissists, more fake than a $7 bill, or a combo of all the above.
DeleteJealously is evil. Some of these people are nice people.
DeleteBauer is the worst. I change the channel whenever shes on. Aversion TV.
DeleteKPRC's not-so-local-news.....the best comedy on NBC since Seinfeld.
DeleteExcept the constant focus they have on Sachse's wedding, Anon 11:23.....that's been a horror story and the worst TV ever
DeleteHe's leaving so he doesn't have to work with the idiots in management at KPRC. Jerry, Deborah and Mike aka the Trifecta of Evil and Ego. All the good ones will go as soon as they can or are already gone. Dean is a huge loss to KPRC.
ReplyDeleteHe was good. The only other male reporter with any talent left at kprc is ryan korsgard....oh and phil archer...rumor is he has a lifetime contract because he was shot in the ass while working there many years ago.
ReplyDeleteWasn't he stabbed in the ass?
DeleteGreenblatt went from DMA 10 to network. That's all the DMA's combined!! This is because he is awesome (as is Stephen Dean, but for him, this looks more like a smart family move).
ReplyDeleteLoss of great reporting for Houston. Congrats Stephen on your move.
ReplyDeleteThey still have Amy Davis's restaurant reports. Surprise! All Chinese restaurants are dirty. Fortune cookies should have food poisoning treatment instructions.
ReplyDeleteRacist
DeleteStephen is a great guy. I will miss our motorcycle rides together.
ReplyDeleteThe SOB left without saying goodbye.
